You know summer has arrived when an abundance of Oregon berries go tumbling into Burgerville’s shakes and lemonades.

This berry-licious season is thanks to family-owned Liepold Farms in Boring, Oregon. Liepold Farms has been growing high quality berries, fruit, vegetables, and flowers since 1952 and they have been a supplier of Burgerville for over 20 years. Multiple generations of the Liepold family still work on the farm to this day.

Liepold Farms is also certified organic and Global GAP certified, meaning they adhere to sustainable farming practices that protect the natural environment. In action, this means they hand weed all 350 acres, they never spray their crops with chemicals, and they use a drip irrigation system that prevents water waste. The farm is also home to dozens of beehives that help pollinate their fields and produce delicious honey.

To make sure their farmland stays healthy for many more generations, the Liepolds use regenerative practices to protect the soil health. Every 3 years, their strawberry fields will be replaced with a small cover crop like clover, which is allowed to grow wild to replenish the soil with nutrients. Soil regeneration is key to supporting environmental resilience and healthy crops.

This summer, Liepold farms supplied us with fresh Oregon Strawberries, Raspberries, and Marionberries. While we have said “until next year…” to our beloved fresh Oregon Strawberries, we have a sweet summer ahead with Oregon Raspberry and Marionberry treats. Indulge in the shakes, sundaes, and lemonades while they are still in season!
